Tues 17th September
Today’s excursion was to Sintra with its Unesco world heritage town centre, set on a wooded mountain studded with castles and palaces where Portuguese royals used to hang out in their own little Versailles like gardens. We decided to take a hike (steep climb) through the woods up to the Moorish castle that sits near the top of the mountain. The species rich woods of the Parque da Pena is an unusual micro-climate of redwoods, gums, tropical palms and fern trees that all seem to like living here.
